Facilities

Television Studio: (RL-014)

News Set

The news set accommodates one to three anchor positions and is stationary. The Broadcast Workshop, taught through the Mass Communication department is hosted from this site.

Interview Set

The interview set can be used for one on one interviews. Furnishings are minimal, but can be arranged to accommodate. Faculty and students generally use this space as a quiet place to conduct interviews for class projects.

Blue Screen

The blue screen measures 9' x 9' and is used by faculty and students for capturing chroma key backgrounds to be edited in post production or keyed live-to-tape over computer generated backgrounds. Blue fabric and paint are also available.

 Sound Booths

Two voice-over booths are also housed in the TV Studio. Audio is captured digitally using Adobe Audition on a Dell computer and can be exported via the campus network, burned directly to CD, or saved to disc.

Black Curtain Backdrop

Another interview setting uses black stage curtains as a backdrop.  Curtains are hung in a semi circle and can be reconfigured around the room.

Control room: (RL-014A)

The Control room houses the equipment and operations for the distance education classroom (RL011) and the TV studio (RL014). Technicians operate video switchers, audio mixers, video tape recorders, and other equipment when producing programming in these two facilities.
Additionally, the control room houses format transfer equipment, and is where cable television is received and distributed.

Post production services are provided for UNCA faculty and student class projects and administrative projects only. These services are free of charge. This is not a hands-on facility. Editing sessions are scheduled on a priority basis by the Video Production Manager (Kent Thompson 251-6425 or thompson@unca.edu) and performed by video production staff. Pre-edit planning meetings should be scheduled with the Video Production Manager.
