"The Bridge"

Connecting the Campus to the
Collaborative Learning Commons

D. Hiden Ramsey Library, UNC Asheville | Last updated 13 November 2006

  • 2-story glass and steel bridge connecting Ramsey Library with New Hall complementing architectural elements of both buildings

  • Augments/continues existing Glass House theme and design

  • Connects Ramsey Library and the Collaborative Learning Commons with the North and East sides of campus (New Hall, Owen Hall, Zagier Hall, Reuter Center, Justice Center, etc.) See campus map

  • Provides greater accessibility for persons with disabilities - Provides handicap entrance and elevator to New Hall and Library

  • 1st level of bridge would incorporate gallery space, restrooms, and information kiosk (w/touch screens)

  • 2nd level would provide additional comfortable seating and gallery space

  • Inspiration: Duke University Bostock Library/von der Heyden Pavilion
