MATH 280, Section 1: Foundations of Mathematics Spring 2009 Homework Assignments

Listed here (by date) is the homework assigned in our Foundations class. Make sure you keep an eye on this page, and keep yourself up to speed!
If you have any questions about these assignments, please don't hesitate to contact me.
- Wednesday, January 14th. Find some time outside of class to meet with your partners and read over this
handout, making note of the strengths and weaknesses of the various responses.
- Friday, January 16th. Read pages 33 through 36 of your textbook and be prepared to discuss this reading class.
- Monday, January 19th. Martin Luther King Day: no homework!
- Wednesday, January 21st. Here is your first homework, on quantifiers.

- Preliminary solutions to two problems (Exercises 2 and 4) due to peer-review committee: Monday, January 26th
- Committee-led discussion: Wednesday, January 28th
- Homework set due: Friday, January 30th
- Friday, January 23rd. Read the handout Getting started with LaTeX,
and if you have a computer download a text editor (like TeXnicCenter or TeXMaker) and a LaTeX compiler (like MiKTeX) to your computer. We will begin
using LaTeX very soon, and I will give you your first LaTeX assignment on Monday!
- Monday, January 25th. No new "math" homework, but here is a little something to get you started with LaTeX: create as faithful a copy of
this document as you can using LaTeX. As a hint, here
is a template which provides you with a more or less "empty" file whose preamble matches that of most of our class documents. This homework is due by Friday, February 6th. Enjoy!

- Monday, March 30th. Nothing new: you have an exam to keep you busy!
- Wednesday, April 1st. Nothing new: keep working on the exam.
- Friday, April 3rd. No class, so nothing new!
- Monday, April 6th. Nothing new, but fear not: you will have new homework on Wednesday, dealing with relations. In the meantime, revisions on Exam 2 are due on Friday, April 10th, and by that time I would also like to know with whom you will be working on your presentation.
