WI events in Fall 2009:
As yet there are no faculty development opportunities planned for Fall 2009. However, the WI Subcommittee is currently soliciting UNC Asheville faculty
(in particular those who have taught WI courses) to submit writing-related scholarship for inclusion on our page dedicated to
the scholarship of writing.
May 2009 workshops in designing writing-intensive courses:
Writing Intensive Workshop I: Overview of Writing Intensives and Best Practices in Teaching Writing Across the Curriculum
Tuesday, May 19th, 9:00-4:00 (lunch break 12:00-1:00), location TBA
Workshop Leaders: Dee James, Cathy Whitlock
This workshop is for faculty who teach in writing-intensive first-year courses (LSIC 179, LANG 120, and other disciplinary first-year courses with a WI designation.
It will provide an overview of the WI requirement, an introduction to student writing processes and how to facilitate them, and strategies for developing effective writing assignments.
Workshop participants will explore how to use writing to facilitate learning outcomes and the course and program levels.
The workshop will also acquaint participants with a range of resources available for both teachers and students.
Writing Intensive Workshop II: Writing Instruction and Interventions in the Writing Process
This workshop has been canceled due to budget considerations. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Spring 2009: The WI Subcommittee is proud to sponsor a Learning Circle (coordinated by
Mary Alm of the University Writing Center)
on the book The WAC Casebook: Scenes for Faculty Reflection and Program Development, by Chris Anson.
Here is the schedule of topics for this Learning Circle, which will meet on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
