AREAS
OF NEUROSCIENTIFIC STUDY ("TRACKS")
Because neuroscience encompasses work at such wide-ranging levels of
analysis, many students often focus on particular tracks of investigation.
The Neuroscience minor at UNCA seeks to emphasize the following three areas
of research:
Molecular/Cellular - the study of the relevant chemical,
neurotransmitter and biomechanical processes in neural functioning.
Systems
- the neural and brain systems underlying larger-scale physiological
processes, cognition and behavior.
Computational - modeling how neurons function and how neural systems
interact to compute complex functions.
As the
Neuroscience minor is new to UNCA, not all of these tracks are currently represented
in the course offerings for the minor. However, it is a goal of the
minor to allow future Neuroscience minors to explore their interest by
focusing on courses in one of the above tracks.
