An award-winning newspaper designer, Michael Gouge is a lecturer in the Mass Communication Department. With 20 years of newspaper experience, Gouge teaches many of the print media classes here at UNC Asheville. He is a former news editor for the Times-News in Hendersonville and former copy editor for the Asheville Citizen-Times and the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News.

Gouge teaches Newswriting; Layout & Design for print media; Media, Ethics and Society; and Public Affairs Journalism. In addition, he is faculty adviser for the unversity's student newspaper, The Blue Banner.

A graduate of UNC Asheville, he also holds a master's degree in journalism from the University of Alabama.
