Announcements: (04-21-04) Folks in Chapel Hill are frantically working to get the peer review platform functional by Friday. I am leaving for Vermont tomorrow, but will track down email and internet from there on Friday to set up the forum (assuming it's operational) . If you would rather go ahead and get started with your peer critiques, you should feel free to exchange files via email. I've posted the peer review questions on a link from "Handouts." (04-06-04) LANG 102.018 papers due at 5:00PM. I am available in my office for individual conferences. (03-26-04) On Tuesday, LANG 102.016 will meet in ZH computer lab. LANG 102.018 will meet in CH 242. Please check the rubrics and let me know if I missed anything! (02-19-04) The Peer Critique Platform for Unit 1 is now available. For next Tuesday, carefully answer the questions listed under "review this paper" for your group members' papers. If you would like, use the "Discussion Forum" option to direct reviewers (including me) to specific concerns or questions you have about your draft. (02-18-04) We will be meeting in computer labs tomorrow: LANG 102.016 in ZH 126; LANG 102.018 in ZH 126). Please remember to bring an electronic copy of your Unit I version copy. (02-11-04) If it snows tomorrow, please send me an email with a focused question/comment about your Unit 1 project paper. We'll converse in cyberspace in lieu of our scheduled meeting. Hopefully, we'll be on schedule for Friday. (02-10-04) I'll be meeting students in individual conferences on Thursday, Feb. 12. We'll be meeting in computer labs for the next couple of classes. Check the syllabus for details. (02-03-04) Service Learning Contracts and Brief Sheets now available under Handouts (01-27-04) Snow day today (no class). I've set up Discussion Forums for the various groups so you can start online conversations about what you are finding in the news. Remember, these news items do not need to specifically relate to your service-learning assignments, but allow for some theoretical link the concept of "citizenship." The article in this week's Mountain X-Press on coffee growers and fair price, for example, raises questions in my mind about global citizenship. At any rate, we'll discuss these things in class on Thursday. Until then, give the discussion forums a spin. Note that my two sections of LANG 102 will share discussion forum space, so some introductions might be in order. (01-22-04) Please note changes to syllabus and due dates for UNIT I Assignment Sequence (01-15-04) Welcome to LANG 102! Please take time to familiarize yourself with this web site. Let me know if you have any questions or find any errors (thanks Brody!). The assignment for next class is under "Handouts" and there's a link to the reading (Aristotle) from the syllabus as well. Please review the Policy Statement and bring questions to the next class. If you're curious what a completed syllabus might look like, check out the web site from last semester: http://www.unca.edu/~lrussell/lang102f2003/ Please note I've changed the link to Aristotle (thanks to Sara!). |
