UNIVERSITY RESEARCH COUNCIL
2007-2008 INTRAMURAL FACULTY FELLOWSHIPS
To: All UNCA Faculty
From: Herman Holt, Jr., Chair, University Research Council
Subject: Intramural Faculty Fellowships
Date: December 1, 2006
This year the UNCA Foundation provided the University Research Council funds to award quality faculty research and scholarly activity proposals. The URC is currently accepting proposals that emphasize the need for materials and equipment, to be used for research and scholarly activity of the applicant. Research includes intellectual activity designed to expand knowledge and understanding of people and their environment, as well as, activities in the creative and performing arts aimed at interpreting and enhancing that environment.
The grant process is competitive, due to the limited funds to be awarded. Proposals will be evaluated primarily on the scholarly merit of the proposed activities and the capabilities of the principal investigator. Scholars from all divisions are encouraged to apply. We expect to fund at least one proposal from each division (arts/humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences), given sufficient qualifying applications, for up to $1,500. Remaining funds will be awarded from all divisions based on the merit of the proposals. Attached are the forms required to submit your proposal for the 2007-2008 Intramural Faculty Fellowships.
Please read the instruction sheet carefully. The deadline for submission is February 1, 2007. Awards will be announced as soon as possible after the submission deadline.
Tenured and tenure-track faculty will be considered the highest priority recipients of this money, followed by full-time non tenure-track faculty, and if funds permit, continuing part-time faculty. Junior faculty members are encouraged to participate in the proposal submission process. Priority will be given to applicants who have not recently received support from the Research Council or other university research funds. Awards are rarely made to faculty who were funded by URC the previous year. Current URC committee members are not eligible for these awards.
The criteria used by the reviewers can be used as a guide when preparing your proposal.
URC welcomes your proposals. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
