Humanities 324

The Modern World

Office Hours, Spring, 2009:
Monday, 4-5 p.m.; Wednesday, 10-11 a.m.; Thursday 1-2 p.m.
or by appointment

This course explores the world’s intellectual and cultural development between the Scientific Revolution of the 17th century and the Second World War in the 20th century.  We will explore the meanings of many words that we use casually in our everyday lives, such as “liberalism,” “enlightenment,” “Romanticism,” “racism,” and “modern.”  We will compare Western and non-Western worldviews through lectures, readings, discussions, examinations, and writing assignments.
