Students in the Museum Studies course which worked in conjunction with the excavation at Palazzaccio near Lucca under the direction of Dr. Charles Ewell and Dr. Laurel Taylor. We spent two weeks visiting Italian museums and the following two weeks working on the excavation and in the museum work room which housed the collections from the archaeological sites of this region. Below we see two students working diligently in sorting the ceramics found in 2005.

Emily and Amanda sorting ceramics.
Amanda " This is coarse ware."

Emily " No, this is African red slip ware."

Amanda " I am putting these in the coarse ware pile and I don't care what you say. Philosophically I believe that these sherds
are more Sartre like than Hegel like."

Amanda " Oh No!!! Dr. Rohner has moved all the coarse ware. What is she thinking???!!!!"

Beauty of ceramics in drying sieve after washing. Remember that pottery was the tupper ware of antiquity.
