Management 489: The Management Internship 

Fast Facts:

-Required for graduation*

-Internship is completed senior year

-Student must have 2.0 cumulative gpa (overall/major)

-Internship is project based (not co-op program)

-Student will receive "Authorization to Register" form when completed one page project proposal is submitted and approved

*Mgmt 499 (Directed Research) is an alternative to Mgmt 489.

Overview of Management 489: The Management Internship

The Management Internship course (Mgmt 489) provides management seniors the opportunity to: (1) use their academic knowledge, (2) acquire additional relevant information, (3) apply the problem solving process, (4) interact with members of management of the host organization.   

Requirements to Enroll in Management 489:

Application to enroll in Mgmt 489 takes place the semester before the internship is to be performed.  Successful application to enroll in Mgmt 489 requires the following:  Returning a completed "Internship Application" form, a signed "Internship Responsibility Agreement" and a formal, one page "Project Proposal" to the Internship Director signed by the intern, the intern host and the intern faculty advisor.  The due dates for the various documents will be set each semester by the Internship Director. 

Failure to submit the signed, one page "Project Proposal" to the Internship Director by the deadline date each semester is grounds for denying admission to Management 489.

Required workshops will be scheduled each semester that will provide an overview of the internship program, explain how to register and answer questions regarding how to find an appropriate internship.

Notes: Background/skills required for some marketing projects-

1.  Creating a marketing plan for a company requires that the student has created a marketing plan as an individual or group project in MGMT 350 (Marketing Principles).  Many businesses also require promotional ideas/techniques, so additional research in the area of marketing promotions may be required.


2.  Creating and implementing a survey for a company requires that the student has taken MGMT 352 (Applied Research), or the student will need to do extensive research at the beginning of the semester in survey design and implementation.
